Baptism is a next step of obedience after a person becomes a Christian. It expresses outwardly the inner change God accomplished when you became a Christian.
WHY SHOULD I GET BAPTIZED?
1. To follow Jesus’ example Jesus himself was baptized. Matthew 3:13 says, "Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him." Your baptism demonstrates your desire to follow Christ by following his example starting with baptism.
2. To obey Jesus’ commandment Jesus commanded his followers to be baptized in Matthew 28:19, "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." Baptism is an opportunity as a Christian to obey Jesus.
3. To tell others you are a Christian Baptism symbolically and publicly tells others you are a Christian. Like water washes away dirt, baptism symbolizes your sins have been washed away when you became a Christian. Like a dead person buried in the grave, baptism symbolizes the death of your old life before you became a Christian. Similar to Jesus rising from the grave, baptism tells others you have been risen with Christ to live a new life with Him.
